Short answer: the quickest way is to point a button you already have, like "Contact us" or "Get a quote", at your booking page link. Click the button in your website editor, paste the link and publish. It takes two minutes and works on every website builder. If you want more, most booking tools also give you a small piece of code that adds a floating "Book online" button to every page, or shows the form inside a page.
The rest of this guide covers all three options, steps for the most common website builders, and where on your site the form should go.
Why a booking form beats a contact form
A plain contact form collects a message you have to reply to before anything happens. A booking or quote form collects what you actually need, such as the service, photos, suburb and a time, and can confirm the booking straight away. Customers get an answer faster, and you get fewer back-and-forth messages.
Option 1: link a button you already have (easiest)
This works on any website and needs no code.
- Open your website editor and find your main call-to-action button, usually "Contact us", "Book now" or "Get a quote".
- Click the button and look for the link setting.
- Paste your booking page link. Set it to open in the same tab, which works best on phones.
- Publish your changes.
- Test it on your phone.
Do the same for the phone and contact links in your menu and footer, so every "get in touch" route leads to the form.
Option 2: add a floating "Book online" button to every page
Many booking tools give you one line of code that adds a button in the corner of every page. You paste it once, usually just before the closing </body> tag or in your site's custom code or footer code setting. When customers tap the button, the form opens on top of your page, so they never leave your site.
Option 3: show the form inside a page
For a dedicated "Book" or "Contact" page, you can show the form directly in the page. Your booking tool gives you an embed code, and you paste it where the form should appear using your editor's HTML or embed block.
Steps for common website builders
Menus change from time to time, so look for similar names if yours differ.
- WordPress: for a button, edit the page and change the button's link. For code, use a Custom HTML block inside a page, or a header and footer code plugin to add it to every page.
- Wix: for a button, click it and choose Link. For code on every page, use Settings, then Custom Code. To show a form inside a page, add an Embed HTML element.
- Squarespace: for a button, edit the button block and change its link. For code, use a Code block in a page, or Code Injection in your site settings for every page. Some plans don't include code features.
- Shopify: for a button, edit it in the theme editor. For code on every page, add it to your theme's footer through the theme code editor, or ask your developer.
- Google Sites: add a Button and paste your link, or use Embed to show the form in a page.
- Someone else manages your site: send them your booking link and any embed code, and ask them to link your main buttons to it.
Where to put your booking form
- At the top of your homepage, as the main button. Most visitors on phones never scroll far.
- On every service page, so people can book while they're reading about that service.
- In your menu, as a highlighted "Book" or "Get a quote" item.
- In your footer, next to your phone number and email.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a developer to add a booking form?
No. Linking an existing button to your booking page takes a couple of minutes in any website editor. Adding embed code is also usually a copy and paste, though a developer can do it for you if you prefer.
Will a booking form slow down my website?
A simple link has no effect on speed. Embed codes from booking tools are normally small and load in the background, so the effect is minimal.
What if I don't have a website?
You can still take online bookings. Share your booking page link on your Google Business Profile, Facebook and Instagram, and in texts and emails. See how to add a booking button to Google.
Should I keep my old contact form?
You can, but one form is easier to manage. Many businesses replace the contact form with a booking or quote form that also has a general message option.
Can I use a quote form instead of a booking calendar?
Yes. If your work is quoted rather than booked by the hour, use a quote or enquiry form that collects the job details, photos and suburb.
